The cosplay competition returns to Retro Expo this July!

• Enter online at the link below or on-site at The Plano Dragon Cosplay table in the Lobby/Foyer Area.

• Purchase admission to the event (you must be a paid attendee in order to participate in the contest).

• Meet in the Plano EVent Center Lobby by the Panel Room Entrance on Saturday July 12 by 3:45pm.

• The contest begins at 4:00pm.

Note that two divisions are available: Children and Adults. The kids division will take place first, followed by adults. Group entries are welcome but will be judged in conjunction with single entries. Any prizes awarded to group entrants will be equivalent to awards received for a single-person entry.

The judges will call each entry out one at a time. Once on stage, you'll have about 20 seconds to introduce your yourself and your outfit, and portray the character in a safe contained way.

Remember to please be supportive of your fellow cosplayers! Cheers and clapping are highly encouraged. We're here to have wholesome fun! So any negativity or sour comments towards another in cosplay will cause us to ask you to exit the contest.

Cosplays don't have to be completely handmade to enter and have fun, but more consideration for the win will be given towards those that are.

Contestants are not allowed to throw anything off the stage, use any type of projectiles or anything else that could create a mess or have the potential to be a safety hazard. This includes (but is not limited to) liquids, glitter, confetti, pyrotechnics, fire, explosive devices, live animals, smoke/smog machines, flash paper/powder.

Note that all contestants under the age of 18 need a parent or legal guardian present at the cosplay competition to sign a waiver in order to participate.

Retro Expo reserves the right to turn away any contest entry it deems inappropriate or not in compliance with the rules.

All costumes must cover "swimsuit areas" – no nudity. (Prize info and entry button below)

PRIZES

• Adult Category (Ages 13 and Up)

  • First Place: $50 cash, a Retro Expo T-Shirt and a Retro Expo Canvas Bag.

  • Second Place: $40 cash and a Retro Expo T-Shirt.

  • Third Place: $30 cash and a Retro Expo T-Shirt.

• Kids Category (Ages 12 and Under)

  • First Place: $50 cash.

  • Second Place: $20 cash.

Bonus surprise awards such as con exclusives may be awarded at judge's discretion.

NOTE: Repeat contestants cannot win in a cosplay that they have placed in at the most recent Retro Expo event (July 2024.)

Please keep in mind that by registering for the cosplay contest, you agree to adhere to the rules above. All cosplay participants have the potential to be photographed, filmed and/or recorded in some fashion. This media may be used in future galleries or promotions by the Event Promoter. By registering for this contest, you are granting permission to Heritage Event Company LLC to potentially use images of your likeness (including motion picture, still photographs or voice recordings) for any purposes in connection with promoting Heritage Event Company events, which may include but is not limited to advertising, promotion and marketing. Such images may be cropped, altered or modified at the Event Promoter’s discretion.
